Choose the right frame for your wall mirror
Written for informational purposes

Wall Mirror Frame
When it comes to selecting a wall mirror, one of the most important parts is choosing the right frame. Needless to say that the glass of the mirror is often the same, the frame is that makes your mirror stand out from the mass. People usually underestimate the effect that a mirror frame can add to the entire decoration of the place that it is installed. Choosing the right frame is the only way to give your mirror the look and style you want, while instantly making it a major element of your decoration.
Material of the frame
An important factor for choosing the right frame is the material that it is made of. Many sorts of materials are available in the market such as wood, plastic and aluminium. Variety though is not the only factor that we should worry about. What we really want is to pick the right one for our house and the trick here is to be related to the rest decoration and furniture of the room. For example, if you want a wall mirror for your bedroom and your bed or your book selves are made of wood, you should probably choose a wooden framed mirror so as to match with the rest of the decoration. But of course this is not going to be as simple as that. You can find several types of wood for your mirror frame but not all of them are going to match with the rest of your furniture even if it is all wooden. It is a little more important than it seems to be, so try to be careful on this one.
Isn’t it chromatic?
Another thing you should be careful about selecting a frame for your mirror is the colour. In the example above, the type of wood on the frame should totally match with the one on the other furniture. As far as wood is concerned, you must find the certain kind of wood for your frame and, if it is not available, you could have one made especially for your house by an expert. You can find one even online but in this case you should give him a very lucid description of what you want. However, other materials such as plastic can be found at any shape and color you want. Finding the style and size you want will not be that difficult. The difficult part here is to choose the one that suits the design of your place.
Size matters
Size and shape of your frame is a very crucial factor that affects the entire look of your mirror and your whole decoration. You can have a frame that just surrounds your mirror using any material you want and you can have it in any size you wish. But, there are some important options to have in mind here. The frame of your mirror could be an image of your personal style and it reflects your personality in a subconsious level. As an easy example for this, you can imagine a frame in the shape of sun or a heart-shaped one. These frames are easy to be found and they can be a great addition to your decoration, giving you the opportunity to communicate your feelings and personality via the decoration of your own place!
Don’t want frames?
Finally, if you are fonder of the simplicity, you can have an unframed wall mirror. The only thing you have to do is to choose the size of the mirror, have it smoothened at the edges and you are good to go. This solution is often found in large minimally decorated rooms and it could give a quite elegant effect.
All in all, the frame of your wall mirror should definitely match with the rest decoration of your house. Think of what would look best depending on the material, colour and size and you will find the best frame that suits your style.
Hey, I just hopped over to your site via StumbleUpon. Not something I would normally read, but I liked your thoughts none the less. Thanks for making something worth reading.

Hi! I’ve been thinking about hanging a wall mirror from the ceiling. I am talking about a heavy handcrafted rectangular mirror that is supposed to be hanged on walls but my idea is to hang it only from the ceiling and keep it hovered just like this! Could that be an option and if it could, are there any tips on this? Like… what I should beware of or what I should place at the back of the mirror. It is an idea that came up a long time ago and now I finally have my huge mirror at home wondering how I could do this safely. I would appreciate any kind of help, especially a personal e-mail. Thank you!

I used your advice and I bought a lighted wall mirror for my living room. Great addition! It has changed the whole design. I’m thinking about installing a whole wall mirror opposite to the lighted one. Do you think it would be a good idea?

You are absolutely right! The frame of the mirrors in a room determine the whole interior design. Changing only the frames of the wall mirrors in a house can change the whole decoration! I’ve seen the diference in my own house when I changed all my mirrors at once, replacing the oldfashioned handcrafted frames with brand new modern design ones. The aura changed dramatically just like this without making any other change at furniture or decoration. My next plan is to buy online a whole wall mirror for my sitting room and I’d like to thank you very much for all the magical decoration tricks!

Great tips! I just wanted to add that when choosing color for mirror frames you should mind not only the wall that it is installed on but the opposite wall as well. The reflection inside the mirror, especially when the mirror is large, makes it seem like a large framed painting on the wall. In the case of a whole wall mirror, all you need to do is keep the room reflected tidy and clean and take on your side the “double reality” effect that is created!

The handcrafted frame in the photo is awesome! I was just talking with my friend about wall mirror frames at a restaurant. The restaurant was full of gold framed mirrors like the one in the photo. The feeling of style and elegance that they were creating was amazing! Mirrors are great additions to a decoration and they give a touch of life inside the place. I was wondering where I could find mirrors like them. A quick online search didn’t help so if you have any suggestions please PM me. Thank you!

I’d like to install a huge wall mirror in my living room – It is about 2m square. I don’t want it to be a whole wall mirror because I think that the effect of the size will get lost. I think that a frame would make it look even larger, stylish and glamorous. What is your opinion? Should I try looking for a frame at this size? Any online shopping recomendations for mirror frames? I would appreciate any kind of help, tips os suggestions. Looking forward to future posts or a PM. Cheers!

Hi! Thank you for the tips! Very helpful info! Do you have any suggestions on decorating a whole wall mirror? I have two huge wall mirrors in the same room. I’d like to find some decoration elements in order to add a cozy touch in the room and I’ve been thinking about adding a large mirror frame all around the two mirrors. The problem is that my mirrors cover the whole wall both of them! Is there a away to add this frame without having to remove or break any part of my mirrors? If you have any idea please contact me! Thank you very much! Keep up the work!

Your site is great and and your tips on decorating using wall mirrors have helped me to improve my decoration a lot! But you don’t include some tips on how to buy wall mirrors or where to find them in low prices. I think this would be very interesting too and searching your site I didn’t find anything like this. I mean that you could include some URLs or some mirror purchasing tips for people that don’t know much about mirrors. I am trying to find cheap wall mirrors to buy but I’d like to know what I should be aware of when buying wall mirror frames, especially when it comes to handcrafted frames or antique ones. Thank you very much for your tips and I’m looking forward for future posts. Thanks!

Hi there! I’ve read some of your decoration guides and I’ve found them more than helpful. I was wondering if you could help me find and buy cheap wall mirrors online. I’ve seen at the links at the top but I don’t know what to choose. Can you suggest me an online wall mirror shop that I can trust? I would appreciate your thought on this because I am going to buy a lot of wall mirrors for an entire house decoration project and finally I am going to suggest a site myself to a cousin, so I want to be precise and well informed.
